Concept

On 25/4/2020 (during COVID-19) several artists and writers conducted synchronised walks across several cities and countryside of Europe (UK, Scotland, Greece); sharing viewpoints and earpoints through mobile chat software. It was a creative collaboration which produced different artworks under the umbrella project Ground Works (initiated by K. Portman) along with Select Arts non-profit foundation (UK). Bill Psarras was among the invited participating artists and -38.250714, - 157914178 (We are walkers into the local / We are dreamers into the global) forms a work at the intersections of conceptual art, digital art. Having as starting platform the shape of walking performance, it is an intervention to the virtual environment of Google Earth by planting at the opposite side of the Earth a new imaginary island stemming from the shape of artist’s walk; a small cut out piece of real land planted in the midst of the Pacific Ocean. Inspired by the local, the global and the dynamic glocal experience; Walking Island has a series of artistic outputs (digital images, maps, poetry and video).
